Try adding a cup of vinegar to the water when you fill the machine. Wash on a longer setting. Then hang the clothes to dry in the sun. You'll probably have to wash them a few times.

I used C L R to remove rusty water stain from my carpet. It didn’t damage the carpet at all. Another option is Oxyclean.
