Try to keep them for awhile. The bees need them right now.

Every part of a dandelion is edible is some fashion. The leaves are more nutritious than spinach or kale. Pick them while they are young before they become bitter and put them in your salad.

Hello Gayle! You can purchase a dandelion picker/weed picker. It will pull up the dandelions by the roots. You have to make sure you get the entire root--called a taproot--so the dandelion doesn't grow back. A good time to work on this is after a rain when the ground is wet/soft. The roots will come up easier. This is a work in progress and you will never be able to eliminate all the dandelions because the fuzz will float in the air and land in your yard from areas where the dandelions are prolific. I have noticed that I get a lot of dandelions in my yard in the spring-2 acres- but as we mow a few times a week the numbers decrease rapidly. if you can get rid of them before they get fuzzy you have a better chance. You can also use a pre emergent but you have to apply at just the right time for your area. You can also spray with vinegar. The bees do need the dandelions. Some bees are becoming extinct in many areas because of chemicals and lack of food sources. Consider leaving the dandelions alone and mow them down before they turn to seed. We need the bees to flourish.
