Hi Linda. Start at the top (ceiling) of each room and end at the bottom (floor). Put an old T shirt on your broom and run it along the ceilings and walls to remove any cob webs. Wash your cabinetry, inside and out. And clean all the ceiling fans too. Then move on to curtains and blinds. (It's easy if you wait for a nice day and clean your blinds outside with your garden hose.) Next, it's windows and doors, including window sills. Put the brush attachment on your vacuum and go over furniture and heat registers, and the exhaust fans in your bathrooms. And last is floors, and carpets. Steam clean all carpets. And clean all the floors. Don't forget to wash the baseboards. Linda, this is intended as a guide for you. I like the "top to bottom" method. It helps me stay organized, it takes me a couple weeks to clean the whole house, one room at a time. I go slow.

Darn girl, that's awesome. I've never done anything like that. I guess.my house is filthy. All I do is dust and vacuum and clean the windows every other year.

I agree with Cindy: everything falls to the ground, eventually.

I would have my drapes cleaned if there are pets or smokers in the house.

I do not use steam cleaning for my carpets, as carpet is manufactured with heat and steam cleaning can cause the backing to “relax” from the yarns and the carpet may need re-stretching. I use a Chem-Dry style of cleaning.

General Rule of Thumb: finishes over 10 years old will be breaking down due to simple age and wear and tear.

  • Hi Linda - This is a great guide to hep get you started with all-natural spring cleaning. It even includes a free eBook. Hope this helps! Hugs, Holly

I would wash your curtains (if you can) or vacuum them. I would dust all your surfaces and vacuum or mop your floors. I would open your windows and let some fresh air in to release any pent in odors.
