Hi Gina,
The Home Depot sells these really cool shower kits which are basically pre-made showers that you sort of just install -- you don't really need to build them, just demo what's currently there. And then you install them straight into the studs, I think.
I've never used it myself, but it seems pretty straightforward. Good luck!!
The window is a problem.
If it wasn't for the window it would be too stuffy, you can buy a waterproof fabric and make a small curtain and put in a corner shower. I would move that cabinet too.
Hi Gina,
First I'd repaint the bathroom white, or bright pastel color, this will give the illusion that its bigger.
Don't get rid of or cover the only sunlight that comes in the bathroom, the window is perfect!! You may want to get window tinted stencils for the glass or replace the glass with frosted glass (for privacy) and still maintain bright light in your batroom.
Replace the floor with ceramic tile or similar. Since the bathroom is small, you won't have to spend too much. I'd replace the hanging cabinet and install an over the toilet shelf/cabinet, in metal...wood pieces tend to look bulky in small spaces.
Buy the half round metal shower curtain hanger and install it and I'd add a shower kit from Home Depot or your favorite home improvement store, they have many options.
Repaint your sink cabinet and install a large mirror, the length of your sink, this also creates an illusion that the bathroom is bigger.
Good luck!
The window is a problem with the shower kits. Maybe you could cut out the window. Will probably have to put up tile and work around the window. Just put up a plastic window curtain to keep the water out.
For what you want and even for a shower head installed in the wall at your tub the window is a huge issue. It WILL rot!
You can't just remove the window because a full residential bath has to have a window per most building codes.
What about this... in my experience having a window in a shower will rot over time.
Replace the window with one that doesn't open. Solid, frosted glass. Then tile floor to ceiling including the surrounding area of the window. I've done this and it made the window completely water proof.
Honestly, u gonna have to start from scratch, total demo job down to the studs, waterproof all shower area making sure u use the right products for that, install glass blocks in window area or u can use same window if in good condition as long as it’s done properly u might be able to get away with it, the lighting is good, or, get vinyl window, and do u have a ceiling fan cause if u don’t then this window is essential.
Waterproofing is key, use shower pan instead of putting mud and using tile (lots of work there), tile all around shower, a niche is a nice touch they come premade, u can either use glass shower door or even just use a rod for shower curtain, I’ve seen that n that looks nice too. The rest is pretty much cosmetic, paint, lighting, cabinet, etc.
if you like the wood look waterproof vinyl flooring or tile on floor is nice touch, I like this space, totally doable.
good luck and have fun.
