Then place bricks in your desired pattern (some cutting may be required), and spread sand . Vibrate compact again. Fill with more sand. It should not come to top of brick edges.
Note that sand will attract ants. You can use polymeric sand, instead, sweeping lightly into joint areas, then wetting it down after you've filled joints and vibrate compacted.
