Better hurry up and take advantage of the cool weather. I worked on mine in warmer weather and it was horrible. Anytime I have a big project, I try to segment it into "do able" smaller projects. If I am motivated, I just tackle it. Anytime you are doing a clean out project, you should have 3 categories: keep, donate, trash. The items you keep should be grouped together before placing back in the area. I like have heavy duty plastic totes in my attic. They stack on top of each other and I label them on all 4 sides and the top. It sounds like overkill but you would be surprised how things will get re-arranged when you are searching for that "one box".

attics are not a good place for some items they get hot in summer and cold in winter. do you have steps to the attic, or do you use a ladder? if a ladder have a friend steady it for you. btw check the roof from below any sun light coming in means water can get in. check the insulation of the attic some types settle more than others. wear a face mask when up there. if you have to replace insulation you will need a box cutter to cut the right size. one part of my house has vermiculite as insulation. its considered an asbestos type product. as long as its covered with plastic and not disturbed, its ok.

have a friend help get any things to the lower floor. at one place I had to use a pully and metal platform to get items out of the attic.

then sweep up any dust dirt etc. my neighbor at house no.2 had a tramp staying in her attic. lock the doors or secure a lock on the hatch.

Someone was living in her attic over her (house)? Could they access in interior of the home? Was it an area over the garage that had no access to living and sleeping areas? Oh my gosh! ? My word!
