I've used foaming bathroom cleaner on brick and it worked great. Might want to try this first.
I thought it would probably work on the painted woodwork, too.
There is a sponge that is designed to dry clean smoke damage from places like wall paper, lampshades and the like . I think it might be called Smoke Eraser. I know Amazon sells them.
