I have three walls of this paneling I do not know what the condition of the walls are in underneath the paneling. so I'm trying to leave the paneling up and possibly paint it. I'm trying to transition a kitchen from yellow & orange & gold, 2 Grey, Silver & purple.
Can I prime and paint this paneling?
I was told if I get this primer I would be able to paint my paneling.White Kilz Adhesion Bonding/ Interior/Exterior Primer. https://www. homedepot.com/p/204763136
I'm also trying to find a storage ottoman with canister Wheels. that will take the place of this stand that's in the middle of that wall. That I can use for shoes, hats, gloves, accessories and some paperwork. I know that storage ottoman would have to be a total Workhorse! LOL thank you in advance for any advice you can give me!

I love that primer. I would try to sand the appliqués off a bit.
they are just decorative decals that I can peel off with no problem. Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it. Have you ever used that primer on the final or paneling before? Have a happy Easter!🐇🐰
I have also used Zinsser Bulls Eye 1 2 3 Primer. It comes in white, but is also tint-able (for light colors). That paneling looks extra shiny, and even though this primer works on slick surfaces, I might still sand or scuff the paneling a bit to help with bonding. You could also try a small area first. I have painted shiny vinyl with this primer/bonder, and laminate. I always keep some around!!
We had our whole house paneled in the 70's. In 2001, we painted over it. Primed first, then painted. We just got done painting the walls again. Looks beautiful. Go for it.
Yes, I used that primer on my paneling 19 years ago , it works great . I had my primer tinted the same color as the paint I was painting my walls . a very pale yellow . Still looks good after 19 years . I repainted once with the same color. I would recommend having the primer tinted to match your paint . I also put a large bottle of white vanilla ( use only the white vanilla ), the dark one will change the paint color.
All good suggestions, I would add a very light sanding before applying the primer and finish paint. It will give a little extra tooth...I really mean a light sanding, you're not trying to take off any paint, just a light scuffing. Good luck!
I purchased a mobile summer home and used Kilz 2 (tinted) and painted over the wall paneling that had stripes and flowers- one coat covered.
Bulls eye 1-2-3 is a very good primer for any slick surface, it’s water base and is formulated for such surfaces, latex water base paint will cover with no problem without sanding. I used to use kill but thru experience the bulls eye primer is way better, it’s by zinnser
Kilz
