How can I update my cats litter box?

I am sorry but I don't know what you mean by up date your cats litter box. We did cut a hole in a utility room door (it just led to a closet) and put the litter box in there so it was out of site and the cats had more privacy. I have seen people that have cut a small door way into a bathroom cabinet and put the litter box in there. What exactly are you wanting?

From what to what? Do you have a photo to share or a description?
start with a good cleaning. good old vinegar and water. there are alternatives for litter box hides. extra large tote with a cat sized hole in the lid. would be one, I have a smaller rectangular table with a fabric skirt velcroid the bottom edge of the table top. slits where entrance to litter boxes are. if you have multiple levels at your place, an extra box on those levels. if you want to have some fun..cat food labels decopodge to the pan. or in my case, the hood. you can make a litter box privacy screen 3 pieces scrap lumber 2 hinges and sand paper, paint.
You can hide a litter box in furniture, there are many tutorials on YouTube showing how. We used a small table and attached curtains on two sides to hide the box, that's worked well. If you want to update the box itself, then more info would be helpful.
