Looking for suggestions for long staircase covering?
have carpet now...its 15+ yrs old. would prefer not to do carpet again..just from a germ / wear & tear standpoint. Just can not have a surface that is slick (fall risk, etc) open to suggestions

Hi Dana, we just redid our stairs from carpet to hardwoods and I was really shocked to see that they are very easy to maneuver. But we got little Carpet treads from Walmart that you can stick down using carpet tape (ended up returning them but they would work well!). That is, if you don't want to do a full runner.
I have much more trouble on carpeted stairs than the wood!
They also sell deck paint that has an additive that makes the surface slip resistant
Many folks often discover that uncarpeted stairs are louder than carpeted.
Replacing old carpet with new on a stairwell is easier and quicker than refinishing or painting the (often rough) existing lumber, or constructing brand new steps. Same with a runner- once it gets to dirty to clean, or too worn out to look attractive, it can be easily changed.
