Try rhododendrons.
It depends upon where you live, but some great ones to try would be hosta, astilbe, and perhaps some asian lilies.
Gotta have some roses!
I like to contrast the leaf detail... so for a ferny type leaf like cypress, I'd do a rounded leaf... That's just a start for you. :)
