How do I amend my soil without chemicals ?

I have a large urban garden ( and a smaller budget) but have exhausted all the nutrients from the soil from years of planting. Nothing grows anymore.

It may take time. If you can get your hands on fall leaves, mix them into the soil. Make yourself a mulch bed in the corner of your yard where you toss grass clippings, veggie and fruit peals, coffee grounds, etc (not weeds). Turn this pile over every few weeks until it is at a stage to add to the soil. I would ask the local garden center for their opinions also.
You could try composting!
I buy compost from a local nursery and mix it in every planting season.
