We just bought a piece of property that has two very large areas of steep hillsides. Looking for an inexpensive way to create erosion control.

I put small limbs on the hillside until the grass grew enough to hold the soil.
Consider where heavy rains will go and provide them a path of least resistance: maybe a dry stream bed look, with big rocks and gravel in it.

My brother has a lot of trouble with this at his house and he has planted some gardens in this area and it has helped a lot. You could also get some landscaping done (or do it yourself) to break up the hill a bit, more into garden 'steps'.
