How can I protect my garden from deer cheaply?

I have a small yard garden with an entrance to my driveway on one side and a common yard on the other. I'm trying to inclose an area about ten by twenty. It needs to be inexpensive and portable THX

You can use sulfer compounds. They smell like rotten eggs. You will smell this as well but after a few days it will be gone. Deer hate this smell.

Hi Todd, you can plant deer resistant plants like daffodils, foxgloves, and poppies. They also don't like plants with strong scents like lavender and salvias. I have heard that they shy away from the smell of human hair so you could try that too.

My neighbor swears by the green Irish Spring soap. She wraps netting around it and hangs near her plants and the deer do not bother it.

  • My cousin uses a vegetable peeler on a bar of Irish Spring soap and scatters the shavings around her plants. There's also a product called Bobbex that works really well if you have something that is very precious to you.

I read this from Gma Kirk: A farmer gave me a gross recipe for repellent...but it works. cup or two of urine, tablespoons of crushed garlic, and cayenne pepper, two eggs in a gallon jug, shake well, fill rest of the way with water. Cap and let age a week. Then you drizzle small stream around the perimeter of whatever you want to keep them from eating. Works on rabbits, too
