How can you clean mildew from windows and keep it off??

We have Andersen windows throughout our home. The edges along the glass (on the wood frame) have become green with mildew. We live in rural Pennsylvania on 13 acres of woodland. Kindly advise and thank you!

  • Sounds like you might need a dehumidifier. Vinegar will fix the mildew.

Yep. Vinegar will kill the spores. Use an old toothbrush. Wipe clean.

Outside, you’ll need to kill it and mechanically remove the dead mold, both.

I would use Zep mold killer &

after applying all the way around the house,

start over again with old toothbrushes & spray bottles of fresh chlorine bleach and water. It must “rinse clean”.

On the north side of the house, this will be a never ending Once A Year Clean Up.

Check the caulk and paint, while you’re on the ladder.

One can add mold/killing additives to latex paint, btw.

Inside of windows or outside? hydrogen peroxide to kill and remove staining from it(wet sponge with peroxide then gently scrub, might need to let sit 10 minutes).May need to use bleach to remove any staining hydrogen peroxide did not remove. Needs more sun, air circulation and less moisture so it will not return. Outside--are trees, shrubs, plants blocking the sun restricting air circulation? they need cut back. Inside---need dehumidifier(wholehouse) If the windows are under warranty still call Anderson first before you do anything.
