How do I get rid of sparrows?

Over our patio is a metal roof w/shallow places for water to run into downspout.Inside it are little spaces that the sparrows get up in and next and crap all over every where. I have bought copper scrubbers and pulled them apart to stuff into each cubby hole. I have also made spray out of Hot Pepper and spray often They don"t leave. Couple of them have even pulled out the copper stuffing. Help me get rid of them.

Without a photo, I'm not exactly sure of the type of space you are describing, but you might try getting a pack of gutter screens and fitting them into the areas where the birds are going. They will not be able to pull them apart or get past them and will feel vulnerable. You might also place one of those plastic owls or snakes on or near the roof. They are wary of predators, too.

Hot pepper spray will never work, birds don't have taste buds. Have to do a permanent seal, not just stuffing, like wood.

You'll need to secure strong, heavy duty metal screening/"hardware cloth" to this area. You can try flashtape, but you'll have longer lasting results with the screening.

What you need is to remove the areas where they can roost. If you have access to chicken wire mess, that may work too. It may be trimmed to fit the area and helf in plsce with zip ties or plastic coated twist ties for plastic bags. Just a twist on the above suggestions. They shouldn't be able to roost, but if you don't mind them possibly 'hanging' out during the rain, this may work.
