How can I put plants on my deck railing?

I have a lot of plants and I like to make a table kind of thing on the deck railing to hold plants. I've thought of just nailing a piece of ply-board to the railing, but that won't look very good, thanks for your help, Karen

They make planters that will fit over the railings of decks. I gave my Mom some last year for Mother’s Day.

My husband nailed a 4" wide piece of wood lengthwise down the sides of the railing on my porch and then I sat my pots of the rail and the wind or kids can't knock them off. We painted them to match the porch rail. Of course it is going to depend on how wide your rails are. Mine are aprox 6" wide and will hold most pots very well.

Just make sure you use pressure treated wood or it will rot fast!

    Have fun :)
