How can we remove a toilet seat?

We want to replace a broken toilet seat, but cannot loosen the screws on the old seat. What can we do to loosen the screws without breaking the seat?

Have you tried WD 40 ?
You could also try PB blaster.
Hack saw as a last resort. It would need a blade to cut metal in it. New screws from the diy stores.
I go with Dfm. Have done it many times on old toilet seats with metal fasteners. Tried WD40 but didn't work. Hacksaw is the best. Right on the surface not underneath.
