Getting rid of a tub?

Would like to throw out the tub and replace it with a new shower stall... is this a difficult task?

We just did that. Our son did the work for us and there is a lot involved. Drain must be in the right place, Flooring might need to be made to fit around surround. Shower head must be put at the right height. Might have to take plaster down to the studs to make shower surround fit. Walls will need to be painted. That is just a few of the things to take into consideration. Now that it is completed, our bathroom looks very nice and is handy for us because getting into and out of a tub at our age was quite difficult if not impossible.
Sounds like a project for a somewhat unhandy and almost 74 year old should not tackle, but thank you for your kindness in replying.
Look at You tube for tutorials on how replace a tub with a shower to see if it is something you want to tackle.
