How to fill areas in yard that are sinking?
Several years ago, I had some pecan trees cut down and the stumps ground up. Now that the stump and roots are rotting, the areas are sinking in. I am scared someone will come in my yard and fall. How can I fill in these areas without having to mortgage my house? I've thought about putting a raised flower bed over them, but I know that will require a lot of work and money. Any suggestions, please.

You can fill them in with topsoil. No doubt they will continue to sink so adding soil as needed. The sinking may continue for a few more years.
just start adding topsoil to the areas and tamp it down everytime it begins to sink add some more and tamp down. the raised bed will just sink if the ground under it is not secure you can buy dumptruck loads of topsoil delivered this will be the cheapest and safest. don't buy junk fill or fill dirt. and you don't need top grade top soil just so it's clean.google it in your area
We go to Lowes and they have bags of all kinds of soil from topsoil to fancy garden soil at a reduced price ( 1/2 price) out front because the bags are busted for whatever reason. It will save you lots of had earned $$$. You can put the busted bag contents in to what they call "recovery bags" and take them home. A real good savings!
