Help! Garden birdfeeder attracts rodents.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can deter rodents from the area under my birdfeeders? No problem with my feeders, but many of the birds scatter seeds which then fall to patio and that is attracting mice and rats. Guess I could sweep up most daily.... Don't want to put out any poison as I have dogs and my neighbors have cats and I certainly don't want the groundfeeding birds exposed to any toxins. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated. My usual jays and doves are squaking at me to hurry up and put out food. Thank you.

Wow, that is a problem. I guess for now May be just use suet blocks to feed them so seeds don't fall to ground. Hopefully the rats will move on.

That sounds worth a try. Hadn't tried suet, but will now. Thank you!

I would move the feeders to another area. Possibly where the seeds would fall in dirt. Mine are located so that it does, some are on shepherds hooks, and I don't have that problem.

Try putting cayenne pepper in your bird seed. This keeps the squirrels away. No harm in trying. Saw seed premixed with something ‘hot’ at the hardware store.
