How to make hearth look more appealing?
Does anyone have any ideas about covering the hearth in front of a fireplace? I don't want to replace it or paint it.

A photo would help. What it is make of, height, width, and depth,
You can add marble or granite slab over it or ceramic tile.

Quick and Easy Fireplace Update
If,you, referring to just the base of the fireplace , depening on what is already there you can paint or you build a wooden box to cover.
You can't put wood over it. Flammable. What ever you want to cover it with has to be non flammable. Also nothing will stick to ceramic tile. The tile would need to be removed. You can cover it with wood framework, then cement board. Now you can cover with any kind of stone, cement, or tile.
