Dawn dish detergent works great. I helped a friend, put a little dollop on your gloved finger and rub it on over an area, not too thick. Let set and then wipe off.
Are you going to paint the walls? If so, you can use a white shellac sealer to cover the grease stains. It will keep the grease from "bleeding" through the new paint.
Every time I clean my mirrors, they end up having tons of streaks and almost look worse than before I started. What could I use to clean them that won't leave streaks...

Hi Lisa! I would try spraying the walls with a little TSP. TSP is a degreaser and that should help. Try wiping the walls with a Heavy Duty Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, followed by a wipe down with Windex to remove any residue from the erasers.
