Buy a new gasket (the rubber ring inside the lid)

That is a dangerous problem but easily fixed. Your pressure cooking needs a new sealing ring. They are very easily changed out. You can find them online or from your pressure cooker manufacture. Please don't operate your pressure cooker in that condition, it could really hurt you! Once you get a new sealing ring just pull your old ring out, apply a thin film of lube on it, I use a little bit of Vaseline on mine then just put the new ring in. One other thing is you always want to make sure that the rim of your pressure cooker is dry and I also make sure to wipe the seal with a dry cloth as well before putting the lid on. This will help create a tight seal. Happy cooking! Hope this helped ya!

Hi Netta, I just put a thin layer of Vaseline all over the sealing ring not the lid itself on all sides. If you think you've gotten to much Vaseline on your sealing ring just take a paper towel and run it over your ring. You will still have a thin slick film of Vaseline on your sealing ring. With a little practice you will get the hang of it and not have to wipe any off. Make sure your lid is clean and dry before installing your lubed ring.

  • You need to buy a new seal/gasket ring. It will work like new when the new one is installed. You can find the correct one for your model online.

not only is it dangerous to operate. if you are canning it could cause uneven cooking. which could not kill bacteria completely, making the food possibly unsafe to eat.

A new gasket should clear up the problem. Good luck!

replace seals but I would advice to get a new one

Sounds like the seal ring has been damaged and is not holding pressure. The seal can be easily replaced with a new one. Available on line.

Do NOT use Vaseline! It will breakdown the gasket faster and vaseline is flammable, according to Drs. My mother was on oxygen 24/7 and we were told nothing containing petroleum should come into contact with hoses or nasal cannula, not even for her nose to help keep it moist. I can’t personally attest to the flammability, but when she’d sneak and use Vaseline it would definitely break down the nasal cannula much faster. So I can personally attest to anything petroleum breaking down rubber and soft plastics. Do NOT use cooker until gasket is replaced. Just google your cookers make and model number and ‘gasket’. They’re easy to swap out, not expensive and only takes a moment or 2. Gasket should be checked regularly and replaced periodically, or your cooker will be dangerous to use.
