How to build up soil level in yard that deteriorated over the years?

My lawn seems to be getting washed away with the rains over the last couple of years. Where the height of my lawn including soul level was approx 4in high is now less than 2 and my grass is dying in spots my bricks around my tree have wrapted and are all uneven which generated an HOA letter. How do I build my lawn back up again to get it level again?? Senior citizen desperately seeking an answer. Thank w

During the active growing season, grass will grow right through a layer of top soil. You can start by covering it with an inch of soil and as it grows add more soil. In really bad spots, you can put a thicker layer of soil and seed grass on top of it

I expect instead of washing away it's just packed down. Most builders will put down a little dirt and cover with turf. Check with HOA if ok to add some dirt(places sell leftovers after builders finish). Then plant more grass or add new turf. One trick to get grass seed to grow quicker is to store in fridge over-night before planting. Grass grows best in spring and the cold of fridge imitates winter.

You are dealing with some erosion and likely also mostly: the dips and sinkage caused by pulling weeds. You need pavers or bricks at any edge of a garden to restrain the edge to in your garden. Bricks are cheap. After you do that, you can sod, soil and/or manure with a rake or hoe.

You can add clay buster to break down the component eroding it or simply buy 40 lb. Bags of new topsoil at $2.00 roughly. Another tip I was given was to sprinkle sugar across the top of the dirt surface to give it some rebuilding agents to revitalize.
