NEVER! My dream was to have a swimming pool. Finally, 15 years I got my dream. I have regretted it for the past 13 years. We had the very best builder in the area. It has been one thing after another. It goes on and on and on. How about try a splash pad, maybe? I hate to be Debbie Downer, but just know it is a tremendous amount of work all year long and the expenses never stop.

If you are talking about buying one the best time is in the fall. Stores with leftover pools will want to clear them out and order new models in the spring and summer.

Talk to other pool owners. They are a lot of work, big liability issues, you usually have to have a locked fence around it. Sometimes hurt resale. Great the first year but no so after that.

    ,,,end of summer sales!

  • What kind of pool? Inground or an above ground? If it is above ground, I'd shop the Labor Day sales.

I concur with other comments noting the high cost of maintenance - parts, repairs, accessories, and electrical bills to heat the water, that come with having a backyard pool. They are lovely seasonal luxuries, but they do require an ongoing financial commitment on the part of the property owner.
