It's best to avoid use of moth balls in the garden as they are toxic.
Avoid moth balls with your plants, but particularly with edibles. Planting French marigolds, Rosemary, Sage, Artemesia, Lamb's Ear, or Chives amongst your flowers and edibles is usually sufficient. For Japanese beetles, apply NEEM, for many other insects, apply Imidicloprid in the early morning or late evening to Non edibles.
If you're having deer and rabbit problems, use Liquid Fence for non edibles, or garlic, French marigolds, Rosemary, Sage.
Stay away form moth balls - they are a carcinogenic substance Paradichlorobenzene.
