    I would suggest that you first mount floating picture shelves.

    These come in various sizes and colours and usually have a lip or edge that prevents frames from sliding forward.


    As the mounting hardware on floating shelves is hidden, your family pictures become the focus of the display, rather than the shelf.


    You will be able to switch out individual prints and frames at any time, without ever having to make more holes in the wall.

    I've seen a newer look recently where you put up a small ledge, not a shelf ...just a narrow ledge above the sofa or bed or dresser and arrange your framed pictures , some overlapping across it .

    It will depend on your preference. You can go with all the frames identical in size and color and lined up in rows. A whimsical gallery wall with a mixture of decor items and photos in a variety of frames (this is what I did). Or something in between with some uniformity in style of frames but no decor and in a variety of sizes.

    Whatever you choose, make sure to lay it out on the floor and view from a higher vantage point (I used a step stool) to make sure you like the layout before hanging everything.
