Stain Glass With Glue and Acrylic Paints

I used various shades of blue, purple, green etc. But start the first step with black paint in a small bottle of glue (shown is a larger bottle). You will use this to trace the color page lines onto the glass. Put the picture under the glass and follow it by squirting out a line of black paint until all the lines are covered. Let this dry thoroughly.

I let mine dry over night, but probably a couple hours would be enough. It is important that the glue be dry and slightly higher than the glass. The rest of the colors will be kept in by this "lead" lining.

With the pallet of colors with glue (I used a paper plate and several piles of glue mixed with colors from acrylic bottles) paint each space between the black lines. My shaky hand did go out of the line somewhat but it was an easy fix to make the black darker again with a permanent sharpie over the glue line.

To hang my owl on a window, I painted 2 eyelet screws dark and bought a short chain from the craft department. The colors show better than the camera shows them. I have more to paint including more owls, dragonflies, humming birds, plain stained glass, and our state mascot. I am excited to see how easy it is to use glue and paint to make these. One last thought, I found a double pained glass at Walmart that I prefer so the design is protected on both sides. I put the second glass behind the painted one so the scene is encased between them. It makes the frame a little heavier, but not too heavy to still hang in the window. My window shots did not show the colors as well and this one barely shows colors. They really are beautiful.
