What is a good sander for a DIY furniture refinisher or repainter?

I have a need for something lightweight because I have Rheumatoid arthritis and cannot lift heavy tools. All considerations appreciated.

I have a similar issue and got a palm sander to use on any projects that I do. (I actually asked "Santa" for one a few years ago and he came through). Wishing you the best.
Palm sander is the best. All you do is guide it with your hand. The sander does the work.
Mary, I've osteoarthritis in both wrists and thumbs (has brought most of my dyi projects to a screeching halt)...and am also recuperating from rotator cuff (shoulder surgery) on my dominant arm. my wee palm sander is the only tool I could possibly use without pain (and while still wearing a brace). just don't try to grip it too tightly--it simply needs to be guided, as William has said. we tend to try to press down too hard at first. don't! :) great idea to go check out the weights of different models.
I have a Dewalt orbital sander and it's the best thing ever. It can remove paint better than anything I've ever used.
