Hi Janine. Here are some great ideas to upcycle or paint old kitchen chairs. Have fun! https://www.hometalk.com/search/posts?filter=upcycle%20kitchen%20chairs
You can make new kitchen stools or covers for large/small appliances like a roaster, a 30-cup coffee maker, or an extra large crockpot, in my case, out of the seats and cushions. If the backs with spindles are still strong, you could use them as indoor shutters to hold hanging pots and utensils, towels, curtains, clothes (belts, scarves, purses, clothes hangers, etc.), collectibles and other things. Follow the usual formula, either to use these as chairs again, or remake into something else: Repair, Sand, Clean, Stain/Paint, Re-sand, Touchup, Embellish, and Seal. Best wishes!
I redid my seat covers with material and staples it on. You can paint, stencil etc.
I have seen a Chairs with the seats removed the center if it has something like hanging and put in the garden with a planter in the middle of it that’s cute
