How do I make a doggie door on a 1-pane slider to the patio?

There is only one side that opens, the other side of the door is fixed. What do I do to create a doggie door?

I've had one of these for several years and I love it. I did have to remove the magnetic closure, because it was too strong for my pets. It's drafty on windy days, but totally worth it.
