How do I fix holes in thin drywall?

I boight a trailer as my starter home. I know, classy yeh? 😊 well the folks didnt unscrew the bolted shelving from the panel wall and left massive holes everywhere. I'm due for a baby girl in September so I'm already quite stressed out. Ive tried filling the holes with drywall spackle...but it falls straight through. Is there a cheap alternative that will work for me? The drywall is only 1/2inch and it's very stressful.

Go to one of the big box stores and get a roll of the adhesive type tape for patching drywall. Put it over the holes, then add your spackle compound. But if you are talking very large - say the size of a basketball, then you'll need to use a cut out piece of drywall in that shape and size. Get a thin piece of wood longer than the hole is wide. Use a drywall screw to fasten the length of wood to the piece of drywall and put into the hole (you'll have to tighten the screw once you have it in place). Then use that tape and spackle. You can buy small sections of drywall at most home improvement stores. It is easy to cut with a utility knife, and they will cut the boards in the length you need. I hope some of these will help you. We live in an old double wide and are quite good at fixing the holes the previous owners and renters left behind.

Okay that sounds like a plan. Seems a lot easier thanhaving to replace all the drywall. The holez arent massive but they just seem to go all the way through. Thank you so much for your help!
