My husband is a retired landscaper. You should make the grade go away from the house, tho not too drastic.

Ideally, water should not be draining toward your foundation, and should be directed a minimum of 10' away.

Downspouts should also be checked to insure extensions follow that rule. If you can, extend the spouts at ground level underground to avoid trip hazards.

Gutters must be adequately sloped, and sufficiently large as to handle heavy downpours. There should be no blockages, so either clean them out regularly or install Leaf Guard, Gutter Helmet, etc. To protect them from leaves, twigs, acorn caps, etc. Some companies will resecure them, free of charge, once installed, and clean out gutters, should they fail for any reason.

It will depend on your terrain and soil. When we built a retaining wall, we put black pipe down that has small holes in it then 57 size rock. Dirt over that.

Hello, rule number one when landscaping is to ensure you are grading all water away from the house, you should have a gradual slope heading out to the front and one heading out to the rear and same with each side of the house, Here's a link that will give some ideas
