Word is, they aerate the soil and they eat weed seeds. They're a pain because they get under all the paving stones and haul out the packed sand from underneath. The best cure for them is let that little black and white woodpecker get at them. I couldn't figure out what was making all the little round holes along my paving stone walkways. They eat every one of the ants before they can move next door! Lol.
