Squash can be sown directly in the garden or started indoors from seeds. They should be planted in small hills. Squash typically needs a lot of space in the garden. Plant them after any danger of frost has ended. They also require a lot of watering. Cucumbers should be planted no earlier than 2 weeks AFTER the last frost date. They require full sun and they like moist soil too. Give them some sort of trellis to climb.

  • The way I learned how is to make a mound of soil, about 6" high x about 12"-18" across and plant 3 or 4 seeds in the center of the mound the recommended depth. Water and hope the gophers and birds leave them alone. :)

Squash and cucumbers are super easy to grow, good choices. Just plant seeds about 24 inches apart in a little group. I usually do 3-5 to a spot. If you give them a trellis, you can grow more in one area.
