I just bought a house and it's a double lot. When I tried to mow it the mower was getting stuck. Its so wet and soggy. Ice tried to aerate it but it didnt seem to help.

  • Lucky you! A double lot is a bonus and you can turn it into a wonderful space over time. You have options. You can regrade the yard. You can install a French drain system. Another option would be to plant some trees to soak up at least some of the extra moisture. You might also consider having (free) consultations with reputable landscaping services to see what they suggest too. Might provide you ideas that you can implement over time as budget allows.

Sorry to hear that, you may have to keep the blade on the mower high, not low cut. Make sure you don't cut the lawn in morning when everythin g is wet, try cutting in afternoon. Also go slow as well.

We added French drains to drain the water off our lot. Have you looked into that? The home improvement stores carry them. They are not expensive but are work if you use a shovel to dig the trench and put in the gravel. It is not hard to do, but is a lot of work Rose, unless you can hire some teens to help you. Ask the manager in the department at home improvement or just be sure to dig the far end of the trench deeper than the starting point closer to the house, put down layer of gravel, lay the french drain, put down gravel to cover the drain, backfill the dirt and sod over it. It totally cleared our lawn of that soggy condition. The end away from the house has to have a place to flow out too like to another street drain or curb.

Check your gutters and downspouts. You may be able to divert some of the water.
