    Hi Kristin,

When we do ours, we first unplug it then take everything out of the freezer and put as much as possible in coolers. Some things don't defrost quickly so those are just put in plastic bags with a tarp over them to help keep the cold inside. Next we put a few bowls of hot water inside the freezer and close the door. That makes defrosting very quick. As soon as it's done, we wash it with warm water that has some baking soda and a little Dawn mixed in. We wipe it down and dry it, plug it in and put everything back. I tend to organize as I go, but here are some ideas from other Hometalk members. Wishing you the best.

You question is in an answer box on how to defrost a refrigerator. Just so you know why no one is answering you.

Kristin, the most important thing for me is to try to use up most of the stuff in the freezer before I undertake the clean-out task. If noone wants to eat the last few things, out they go! Like Linda, if there are a few items left, they go in a cooler. Then I get to work cleaning out the freezer, first sweeping out little odd bits of junk that fell to the bottom, then using warm water and baking soda to clean. Then put the few cooler items back, and you're all set to make another grocery buying trip.

Here's how I do it. And I can get this job done in under 1 hour....it is one of my least favourite chores!
