How can I update an 80's formica cabinet?

    They can be painted, but it's important to prep with a little sanding and a good coat of primer. I use Kilz.

    Pat: PAINT...!


    ...clean well, remove all hinges and hardware (signs of an amateur job) then put on two coats of GOOD latex paint. Once reassembling, treat your cabinet nicely for at least a month while the paint cures.

    You could paint them or do a cover application such as concrete or expoxy over something decorative like pennies, glass pieces, or whatever you like. You could also do tile over top, but i don't like the grout lines of tile for a flat surface personally. It looks like though.
