Hello Doug! here is some information that may help you decide! https://www.hunker.com/12222085/what-kind-of-paint-do-i-use-on-wood-furniture
Everyone has their own preference. I use acrylic latex paint with three coats of a water based polyurethane to protect it. I do mix my own custom colors. I buy sample jars and OOPS paint.

I paint furniture professionally
I only use,oil based products. Very forgiving and most durable.
Yup, acrylic latex paint would be your safest choice.
Hi Doug,
Most people use Chalk Paint these days and wax finish it after!
It will depend on your use as to which is best. I've used just about every type of paint for furniture projects over the years. My favorite is RustOleum Painter's Touch.
is it wood? metal?fiberglass/acrylic plastic? Natural fibers like rattan, bamboo, cane, wicker?painting the upholstery part?outdoor or indoor?
Hi Doug! A chalk based or mineral paint all work great on furniture! Valspars is easy to pick up at your local Lowes. :)
Chalk paint is nice, but it requires a top coat. Lately, I prefer latex paint in eggshell finish. It gives the look of chalk paint, but doesn't require a top coat.
