You could measure the dimensions of your table top and take them to a home improvement store or order from a hardware store, a sheet of galvanized metal. Place it on the table and use a board and hammer to bend the metal around the edges of the table. The corners will need to be folded over precisely or a small square cut so the corner will lay correctly. Could had some beefy nails or screws to the edges spaced appropriately and there you have it.
Another way is to use Rustoleum "hammer" paint. If applied correctly it gives a faux galvanized appearance.
Hello Luci,
Rub the table top down and prime the wood. 2 coats of flat grey undercoat the colour you want, then dry brush with silver grey flat paint . If you don't want to do all the preparation, use chalk paint. Then rub and dap in on a cloth all the colours you used and go over the table till you are happy with the look. Finish off with clear or antique wax.
I would suggest you try it out before committing to a whole table with maybe a coaster or two first!
I believe there are paints (both brush on and spray varieties) that will give you a galvanized metal finish. Or you could try this method:
