How to bring and old sled back to life?

This should have been easy to Google, but no matter how I worded it, I got answers about oil in a snowmobile. I'd like to know what kind of oil to use to rub down a very old wooden sled. I usually put it on the porch with greens and a red bow at Christmas, but it could use some sprucing up! Thank you

As you have discovered, Googling is extremely helpful, you just need to find the phrase or words to get results.
As far as sprucing up your sled, do you want to paint it first? Maybe back to original color when new? Or is it a wood sled that was just stained and oiled?

Hi Kathy! I would use Tung oil or hemp oil. Either will help to brighten up the wood and bring it back to its natural state. :)

I guess it depends on the look you want. To have it look like it was just used, parked, and decorated keep the refinishing to a minimum. If the rails used to be red and you want to brighten them then before you paint them sand off the rust and wax the bottoms that way it will look more like a used sled. If you just want to give the wood a drink of oil I would use lemon oil. Before you put it outside give the wood a coat of paste wax. It's just my opinion but I think it will have more impact if it looks a little rustic.
