How to turn old enamelware into planters?

I want to turn some old enamel pans, tubs into planters. I am looking for information on what drill bit to use for making drain holes.

Use a drill bit for metal.

If it was me I would use a 1/4 inch bit.

Any good sharp drill for metal should work. Put a piece of masking or painters

tape in the spot you want to drill and then drill right through the tape and the pot. This should help to stop the hole from cracking or making a mess when you drill.

Good advice above but to me enamel pans have monetary value. I would hesitate to damage them as there are so many other alternatives.

They aren't worth much, I got them really cheap. That is why I want to use them as flower pots.
