Hi Charlene, I saw the neatest thing at Walmart. They had created a display area incorporating the red 12x12 concrete stones with the gray 12x12 concrete stones to create a checkerboard design. I thought it was very pretty. However, those are not what I consider pavers. Pavers are more like bricks. If you are trying to save the 4x4 concrete area then, dig up the grass and dirt about an inch or two and tamp down the ground for a smooth bed as far out as you want to go. Lay the pavers around the edges of the 4x4 and stagger them to create a brick sidewalk look. Use sand to fill in the cracks and sweep off the excess. Have you ever seen a circular paver design. They are very pretty but you might have to break up the 4X4 concrete area to create that look. One other idea, I have seen is people using the larger maybe 18 inch stones and leaving the same size of grass between them. I really love that look but you would have to weed eat the grassy area. Whatever you decide to do I am sure it will be beautiful.

You could frame it. By that I mean go around the outside rim of the patio with pavers. That would enlarge the usable area. How many pavers or how much you enlarge it depends on the number of pavers you have and how much room you have and of course how limited you are by funds. If you do this just be sure you follow some guidelines and start with a perfectly ground. Doing this correctly is key.
