Set traps with jr mints, we always have nice every winter, live in a 200 yr old house. (Also we have 3 cats)

Bill....I still believe in the old style mouse traps with cheese or peanut butter but sometimes the sticky cardboard pads will work too. Good luck...I despise those little critters!

Peppermint oil will keep them away. You can soak cotton balls with it and place around. I purchased a spray that is 50/50 peppermint oil & cinnamon oil. I saw it in Ace hardware but I purchased mine from Amazon. Spray anywhere you can and reapply when the scent goes away. This worked well for me.

Sticky pads will trap them but you might consider that inhumane. We put a few of those in our garage. Warning, it'll also trap snakes.

These 2 things worked better than poison, cat, or traps in our case.

  • I use no kill traps baited with dollar store peanut butter. I also have a dog that is a better mouser than any cat on the planet. She is like a bloodhound on steroids except that she is a doberman terrier mix.
