What is the best product to use to clean my hardwood floors? Do I need something else to polish or wax them, too? How often?

Hi Lady, it really depends on what kind of floor you have. If its a manufactured wood floor then I would definitely call the manufacturer to find out the best products.

If its a really old hard wood floor then a simple combination of vinegar and water and a really good mop is the way I go with my wood floors. I have friends who have had bad experiences with waxes so I never tried anything like that.

Before trying anything new though definitely use it on a small portion of your floor first to make sure you like the results.

I've been using this solution on mine since 2000. No residue, shines like new, and inexpensive to boot. Just wring your mop as much as possible.

    ½ cup apple cider vinegar

    1 tsp blue Dawn

    2 gallons warm tap water

  • How often depends upon your lifestyle and how much traffic you have in your household. I have always used Bona products for wood floors. Even though I live alone and am neat and tidy, I have 6 cats, 3 dogs, 3 neighbor dogs and visiting pets tromping through my house daily. The only access for the pets to the backyard through my kitchen with hardwood floors. They have a pet door and come and go as they please. Every night before bed, I wash my kitchen floor. It is small and takes no time at all. Before pets, I cleaned them once a week. Mostly they just got dusty from having windows and doors open.
