How to get rid of squeaky wood floors?

Question

Our house is over 40 years old and our upstairs master bedroom has become totally squeaky! Is there any way to get rid of the squeaks without replacing the floor [since it is a second floor bedroom it cannot be reached underneath].

Help!! The squeaks are driving me mad!!!

I've seen a lot about 'squeeeek no more kit' but haven't used it.

You can lubricate the floor between cracks with powdered soapstone, talcum powder, or powdered graphite. Put a thin cloth down and walk back and forth to work the powder into the cracks. This reduces friction. Then you can use a damp cloth or vacuum to clean up what's left.

So.eone told me pouring talc powder into the cracks help. The other tho g to do is use a finishing screw and screw down thru the floor and into floor joist where the squeak is occurring. Set the screw and fill with wood wax crayon. Has to be long enough to grab the joist. The squeak is occurring because floor is moving up and down.

What I have done....locate the squeaks and mark them with a piece of blue painters tape. Then I drill 1/8" holes at an angle towards each other about an inch apart. Then use 6d or 8d finish nails in the holes. Countersink the nails and fill with Minwax wood putty the color of the flooring. The angle of the nails force the flooring down eliminating rubbing and squeaking.
