Jan 7, 2017 - Use a mop, water and commercial cleaners that are designed for parquet floors to gently scrub the floor clean. The trick is to use as little water and cleaner as possible, to prevent water damage, and not to scrub too hard, to prevent scratches and other damage. Only use this technique on floors that are sealed.

If your wood has not been sealed you can finish the floor with water based polyurethane. You need at least 3 coats with a light sanding between coats. Be scrupulous in getting any dust up between coats. Personally I don't feel that the water based polyurethane cures as hard as the oil based product, but water based poly doesn't add any color to your wood. Many woods darken naturally as they age.
