How to keep trees from resprouting after being cut down?

We had an old, and very sick, oak tree cut down last spring and it's sprouting a cluster of new saplings from the base. I've cut them back and they keep coming back. I want to keep the stump, but don't want the new growth that keeps returning.

  • You need a drill with a thick drill bit and drill down into the stump and then pour diesel fuel into the holes. It always works with round up.

As above in drilling but you can pour epsom salt instead of diesel fuel should do the trick.

If you want to keep the stump, don't use the stump rot solutions. They will make the stump soften and fall apart. Not sure about diesel fuel, though. Just resign yourself to going out and periodically snipping off the suckers. They will slow down with time and then stop.
