How can I paint a bathtub?
We have an old bathtub we have painted before but now has started to chip. Is there any way or anything we can use to get the old paint off and start again? Buying a new tub just isn’t in the budget! Thank you!

Hi Sheryl, you can use sand paper to smooth and rough up the surface to prepare the tub for a fresh layer of paint. Start with a coarse grit and move to a finer one, clean well so there's no particles or debris left prior to painting.
We painted a garden tub in a mobile home and a cast iron tub with RustOleum Kit. It worked great and held up really well. It's a 2 person job, area needs to be vented, wear respirators, and follow instructions exactly.
Without knowing more, I'm not sure how to remove the old paint. The paint that was used and the bathtub material will guide you as to what type of solvent would be best to remove existing paint.
There are lots of products to paint tubs but I had a professional come and paint ours. We are very happy with it. I recommend a professional.
The inside is tricky. I had a company come out and refinish that part. Took two days. That was at least 5 years ago and it still looks good. Cheaper than buying another one. Mine is a turn of the century clawfoot tub. I painted the outside with exterior paint which has held up beautifully.
